There are many “DIY” options available online and in office supply stores for those that want to draft a will without seeking the assistance of an attorney. However, it is important to know that using that option also comes with the risk of commonly made mistakes that can affect how your final wishes are carried out. For example, what is the result of leaving certain assets directly to minors; or attempting to disinherit a family member; or leaving assets to pets; or assuming that all of your assets will be covered by the terms of your Will? DIY forms do not accurately address those questions and without proper legal advice, those mistakes can alter the final distribution of your estate.
